Colonoscopy is an examination of the large intestine. It involves a flexible video tube inserted through the anus to examine the entire large intestine.

Usual reasons to have a colonoscopy examination are

• bleeding seen during bowel motion
• change in bowel pattern either diarrhoea or constipation
• abdominal pains
• Past history or family history of polyps or bowel cancers
• screening for bowel cancers
• positive government sponsored stool test
