D. SERN WEI YEOH

Dr Sern Wei Yeoh (MBBS, BMedSci, FRACP, MPH) grew up in Melbourne, was the dux of Melbourne Grammar School and one of Victoria’s top secondary school students. He then graduated on a full academic medicine scholarship from the University of Melbourne. He also holds a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Masters of Public Health, accomplishing these degrees with first class honours. Sern undertook gastroenterology training in Tasmania and Victoria and attained full specialist qualifications in 2016, with a number of research publications. He was subsequently awarded a competitive fellowship in advanced hepatology at St James’s University Hospital in the United Kingdom. Here he treated critically ill patients, including those requiring liver transplantation, in one of Europe’s largest teaching centres.

Sern holds a substantial public consultant gastroenterologist appointment at Northern Health. Committed to servicing regional Victoria, he provides weekly consultations and endoscopy lists in the Latrobe Valley. He is a Clinical Lecturer with the University of Melbourne Medical School; tutor and mentor to medical students and junior doctors at Northern Health; and Basic Physician Training educational supervisor. He supervises trainees with the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE).  He is accredited to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy and has recertified multiple times with the CCRTGE, with polyp detection rates equalling or surpassing national averages.

Sern is proud to be a part of the Ivanhoe Endoscopy team since 2023 and offers expert care to his patients and clear communication to referring doctors. Although not fluent, he speaks conversational Mandarin, French and Spanish.
